Mother's Day

Marie and her boat in honor of her mom, Bertha,
The challenge was to weave Mother's Day and honoring our Mother's into our boat making workshop. By following my intuition to guide our time, things flowed beautifully. The link I used was haiku poetry, as taught by Angeles Arrien in her Four Fold Way retreats.
"Haiku poems date from 9th century Japan to the present day. Haiku is more than a type of poem; it is a way of looking at the physical world and seeing something deeper, like the very nature of existence"
http://examples.yourdictionary.com/examples-of-haiku-poems.html"A haiku uses just a few words to capture a moment and create a picture in the reader's mind. It is like a tiny window into a scene much larger than itself"http://www.creative-writing-now.com/how-to-write-a-haiku.html
This Mother's day was bitter sweet for me since I had just learned of Angeles' unexpected passing. She was a respected mentor and guide for me over the past few years. Bringing in what she taught combined with how good I feel about my mother. Mary, and her support and love for me supercharged my intention- to make this a memorable and heartfelt time to get in touch with female energy.
In our talking circle, we said our Mother's names and acknowledged what gifts they had given us. We talked about water and boats. We went into an inner place to bring out what we were feeling around boats and images of where they might take us in a
journey. In a Haiku poem you reference nature and the water became the bridge between our Mothers and the Boats on the Water. Leo found it very insightful as he had never tried writing Haiku poems and took to it easily. Within a few moments of time, we each had our poems as a foundation for words that could be part of the boat making that followed.
Bertha's boat in progress- tiny but mighty!
