Twelfth Night

I'm looking forward to tonight's party hosted by my neighbor, Ron Chase

He is known for his magical annual Twelfth Night Party with the centerpiece event being a King Cake with a hidden bean.

Author Adam Gopnik's book, The King in the Window. https://www.amazon.com/King-Window-Adam-Gopnik/dp/B005SN3K24 also introduces this traditional cake to readers along with some memorable stories about the beginnings of large plates of window and mirror glass in France.  This fictional story is full of delightful descriptions of a French Palace and a boy full of curiosity and bravery. It is a kind of Alice Through the Looking Glass adventure.

The twelfth night celebration relates to the legend of the three kings reaching the manger where Jesus lay having followed the star for twelve days after his birth. I like to think of this also as a celebration of the light coming back after the dark of the winter solstice. Happy winter to all of us!
