Bringing Spirit Boats to Berkeley Art Museum's Art Lab

On November 12th,  I was the visiting artist for the Berkeley Art Museum's Saturday Family Art Table. http://www.bampfa.berkeley.edu/event/spirit-boats  It was great to be working in a new vibrant environment with my Spirit Boats.
This fabulous new incarnation of BAM has some excellent exhibitions and the addition of an interactive experience in their downstairs Art Lab where you can drop in and create art on the spot Thursday- Sunday.

As we do at the deYoung Museum, in our Doing- ViewingProgram, http://deyoung.famsf.org/education/families-children/free-saturday-classes
the kids first went on a docent led tour into the galleries to talk about what they find in the works that relate to the art project, priming them for a meaningful art making experience.

In this case, I got to review an extensive catalog of the show, the Berkeley Eye, http://www.bampfa.berkeley.edu/program/berkeley-eye  to chose the pieces  I felt would be in alignment with my theme of movement of spirit. The kids returned from their tour excited to create their very own Spirit Boat.
